In 1992 they petitioned the Florence city council and mayor to begin a Main Street organization. They also solicited the application thru the state of Alabama to become a part of the state-wide Main Street Organization.Since 1992 more than $190 million has been invested in downtown Florence renovation and construction through public and private funding.
