Do you remember seeing movies at the Shoals Theatre?If you’re like so many others, you have fond memories of some of your favorite movies viewed from the comfort of a seat at the Shoals Theatre. That big screen was amazing, and that wonderful theater was a very important part of our formative years.Our community is so happy that the Shoals Theatre continues to serve as an entertainment venue for our area. Shoals Community Theatre has done an admirable job of rescuing this important landmark and making it continue to be a vital and energetic place where memories are made.There’s only one thing missing. Although it’s an excellent space for live theatre and musical events, the Shoals Theatre is no longer able to show movies...unless we pitch in and make it happen!A community group, headed by Florence Main Street, is starting a campaign to raise $70,000 to equip the Shoals Theatre with a retractable screen and the digital projection equipment that would allow this stately old movie house to once again entertain through the magic of film. Imagine bringing your children or grandchildren to a screening at the Shoals Theatre, and watching them enjoy a classic film—or joining your friends at a screening of independent films, documentaries, or a film series. Maybe we can reprise some of the classics - maybe even your old favorites!But to make this happen, we will need your help. Seventy thousand dollars sounds like a lot of money, but if we work together it really is not. If seventy people donate a thousand dollars each, we’re there; if seven hundred people donate a hundred dollars, our goal is met. If people will donate ten dollars a month for a year — about what it costs to purchase a movie ticket these days — we can have movies at the Shoals again before you know it!Will you help? Florence Main Street has set up a non-profit fund, which allows you certain tax advantages, and our goal is to obtain commitments for this project before the beginning of the October. If we can do that, we could be viewing films again at the Shoals Theatre by the holidays!Click here to give.
